A transfer, not a trip
At around 575 km this is the longest journey on this site, and it is honest to say that there is very little to see. The NH44 north through Anantapur and Kurnool is good, fast, four-laned Deccan highway, and it is a means to an end.
Almost everyone who books it is travelling for work, moving house, or making a family journey that has to happen. Nobody books Bangalore to Hyderabad by road for the scenery, and a page pretending otherwise would be wasting your time.
So this page covers the two things that actually matter.
Travel overnight
On this route more than any other, the overnight run is the right answer. The highway is good and quiet after dark, there is nothing to look at anyway, and you arrive in Hyderabad in the morning with a full working day rather than having spent one in transit.
Departure is planned around the driver’s rest, and we say so plainly rather than pretending a nine-hour night drive requires no thought.
If you travel in daylight, leave early — the arithmetic is unforgiving, and arriving at eleven at night after leaving at two in the afternoon is a bad plan badly made.
Two borders
You cross Karnataka into Andhra Pradesh and then Andhra Pradesh into Telangana. Interstate permits apply, charged at actuals and quoted before you travel. We hold permits for both, so it is a line on the fare rather than a hold-up at a check post.
This is also the reason a one-way drop makes such a difference here: a round trip means paying for over 1,100 km and two sets of the same paperwork, and virtually nobody drives back.
Arriving in Hyderabad
Tell us where in Hyderabad, not just the city. Hyderabad and Secunderabad are distinct, and the tech corridor at Gachibowli and HITEC City is a long way from the old city and the Charminar. On an eight-and-a-half-hour journey the last forty minutes is where a driver who does not know the city loses you an hour.
Why this route suits an Ertiga
Eight and a half hours of flat highway is where an Ertiga’s running cost advantage over a larger MPV is at its most pronounced, and for a business group of three or four with bags it is genuinely comfortable. For six adults on a run this long we would decline and recommend something bigger — there is no version of nine hours in the third row that ends well.
