| Chargeable distance | 210 km | 420 km |
| Rate per km | ₹20 | ₹19 |
| Distance cost | ₹4,200 | ₹7,980 |

One way is charged for your direction plus the minimum distance. A round trip charges both legs with the daily minimum applied — which is why the one-way total is lower even at a higher per-km rate. Prefer a single agreed figure with toll and permit folded in? Ask for an all-inclusive quote.
The fast approach
Trichy is reached from Chennai in five and a half hours and from Madurai in two and a half. From Coimbatore it is three and a half on the NH544 via Karur — fast, flat, four-laned, and dull in the useful sense.
That matters because it is the difference between a day trip and an overnight. From Chennai, Trichy needs a night. From Coimbatore you can leave at seven, have a full day at the temples, and be home for dinner.
Karur sits at the midpoint. It is a textile town rather than a sight, and it is where your driver will suggest breaking for a meal.
Use the day in the right order
This is the one piece of advice that changes the trip, and it applies from any direction:
Srirangam first, in the morning. The Ranganathaswamy temple is the largest functioning temple complex in the world — seven concentric walled enclosures with a town living inside the outer ones. It needs two hours minimum and it is far more pleasant before the heat.
Rockfort last, late afternoon. The temple on the granite outcrop above the city involves a few hundred steps in the open. Climbing it at one o’clock is a decision people regret; at five it is a pleasure, and the view over the Kaveri at that hour is the best thing in Trichy.
Jambukeswarar at Thiruvanaikaval fits between them if you have the appetite — one of the five elemental Shiva temples, representing water, and considerably quieter than its neighbours.
If you have two days
Thanjavur is close to Trichy and the Brihadeeswarar temple there is the high point of Chola architecture. Trichy and Thanjavur across two days is one of the better temple runs in South India, and it is not something to attempt in a single day from Coimbatore. We quote the pair as a circuit.
Why this route suits an Ertiga
Three and a half hours of fast flat highway each way, with a day of getting in and out at three large sites in between. On a day trip nobody carries luggage, so the third row stays entirely usable and six passengers travel comfortably — which makes this one of the more straightforward routes on the site for a full group.
Still coming to this page: named toll plazas and amounts, named break stops. Those come from our own drivers rather than from a map, and we would rather leave them off than print a figure we have not checked. Ask on the call and we will tell you the toll for this route.
All bookings include a professional driver. We do not offer self-drive rentals.
Booking this route
We drive Trichy to Coimbatore as well, at the same rate — the fare depends on the distance and the direction of travel, not on which end you start from. There is one page for both directions rather than two pages saying the same thing.

Coimbatore to Trichy — FAQs
Is Trichy a day trip from Coimbatore?
Yes, comfortably, and it is the only one of our cities where that is true. Three and a half hours each way on the NH544 via Karur, which leaves a real day at the far end rather than a rushed few hours.
Is a permit needed?
No. Both Coimbatore and Trichy are in Tamil Nadu.
What should we see in the time we have?
Srirangam in the morning while it is cool, and the Rockfort late in the afternoon when the steps have come out of the sun. That order matters more than anything else about the day.
Can we add Thanjavur?
Not comfortably in a day from Coimbatore — that wants a night. Trichy and Thanjavur together is a good two-day trip and we will quote it as one.
Is there anything on the way?
Karur is the halfway point and is known for its textiles rather than sights. The road itself is fast, flat and unremarkable, which is exactly what makes the day trip work.
